Royal Castle
plac Zamkowy 4, 00-277 Warszawa
Located on the Castle square (plac Zamkowy) at the entrance to the Old Town, it was the official residence of the Polish monarchs. In 1926-1939 it used to be the seat of Polish president. During the German invasion in 1939, the castle was badly damaged by German bombing and artillery. Further damage occurred in 1944 at the Warsaw Uprising. Restoration work was started in the early 70s. The symbolic moment came in 1974, when the castle tower clock ran again, at the same time when they were stopped by German bombardment. Nowaday the castle serves as the seat of the National Museum and gala events.
