Vinden Castle (built between the 11-14th century) rose like a phoenix from the ashes. Or in this case, more of a pile of stones that were once vast hall walls, towers and defensive walls. Castle had its best season in the 13th century, as the Count's seat was one of the largest residences in the former feudal Europe. The worst period was at the beginning of the 19th century. Neither wars nor fire, but the greedy owner converted the castle in ruins. It is located about 45 km out of the Luxembourg city and it is easy to get there. Trains go every 20 min. and then there is a bus- whole trip (which takes about 1 hour) with pleasant scenery along the way.
