Since it largely escaped bombing during the Second World War, which befell so many European cities during that period, Prague has kept its unique historical appearance with a labyrinth of winding, medieval cobblestone streets and beautiful palaces and churches of all architectural styles.
Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Nicknames for Prague have included: Praga mater urbium ("Prague – Mother of Cities") in Latin/Czech, the golden city and "City of a Hundred Spires“ based on count by 19 century mathematician Bernard Bolzano. Today's count is estimated at 500.

Hotels improved their quality as well. Downtown (in historical part - Lesser town) you can find many boutique stylish hotels and International hotel´s chain as well.
From the architectonically point of view you can find here almost any kind of style (from Gotics, Baroque, Rococo style to Art Nouveau). Only what is really missing in Prague is a Modern architecture. Actually there is just one modern interesting building - the Dancing house (btw, there is a nice bar with a terrace in the last floor with a beautiful view on the river Vltava and the Prague Castle).
