Hellasgarden is a nice, natural area for outdoor activities, located only 20 minutes away from downtown. In winter time you can enjoy there ice-skating, cross-country skiing, for the bravest among you, you can bath in a hole cut in the ice. There are also saunas and traditional Swedish massages available. In summer time you can e.g. swim in the clean lake or walk. There are plenty of trails for walking and orienteering, including quite difficult ones for those seriously inclined. There is a Café and a restaurant as well, outdoor gym, kayaking and even a nudist place to sunbathe and swim if this is what you fancy.

The Vasa is the only preserved 17th-century ship in the world, and a unique art treasure. More than 95 % of the ship is original, and it is decorated with hundreds of carved sculptures. There are nine different exhibitions around the ship to tell about life on board the ship. The film about the Vasa is shown in 16 different languages. In addition there is a well-stocked shop and a pleasant restaurant.

Gamla Stan (Old town) is the Stockholm’s original city centre and consists of Stadsholmen island and the islets of Riddarholmen, Helgeandsholmen and Strömsborg. The Old Town dates from the 13th century but most buildings are from the 17- and 1800s. It’s a glorious labyrinth of charming cobbled streets, alleyways, rust coloured town houses and meeting squares reflecting north German architecture.

Skansen consists of the oldest open-air museum in the world and the ZOO, with a beautiful location on Royal Djurgården and a view over all of Stockholm. This is the place to visit historic Sweden in miniature. 150 farms and dwellings from different parts of the country were disassembled and transported here. You’ll find town districts with glass blowing, pottery, a tinsmith’s workshop and a bakery, a gold-colored manor house, the Skogaholm manor house, the 18th century Seglora wooden church and the museum shop.

The Royal Palace (built in 18th cent. in Italian Baroque style) is the official residence of His Majesty the King of Sweden. With over 600 rooms it is one of the largest palaces in Europe. Open for public and offer to see 5 museums. Visit the reception rooms, Rikssalen (the Hall of State) with Queen Kristina’s silver throne, and Ordenssalarna (Halls of the Orders of Chivalry). You can also see Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities, the Tre Kronor Museum and the Treasury. The Royal Palace also contains the Armory, with royal costumes and armor, as well as coronation carriages and magnificent coaches from the Royal Stable.

Thielska Galleriet, an art collection of banker Ernest Thiel (18959-1947) is a hidden and often overlooked gem. It is located in a somewhat extravagant Arn Nouveau house, the banker´s former mansion. Thiel used to be a friend of mamy prominent Nordic artists of his time, including Edvard Munch and others. He gradually amassed a breathtaking collection or Scandinavian art.

Hammarbybacken is a popular weekend destination for many Stockholmers during the winter months. Near the Ericsson Globe Arena, the slopes are easy to reach on the Green Line metro toward Bagarmossen. There are four easy-to-ski downhill slopes, a snowboard park, ski school, equipment rental, and a café. The Park Inn Hotel Hammarby, “Stockholm’s first ski hotel,” is located at the foot of the slopes. The rest of the year, Hammarbybacken is open for other activities including downhill cycling.
